Roughshod Duo
A 3/2 with trample for is the kind of body red drops on turn three and swings, and the payoff bolted onto it keys off how much mana you burn across a single turn rather than any one cast. Expend 4 trips as your fourth total mana clears to cast spells, which reframes the sequencing question: this card wants you to reach four mana of spells in a turn, whether that's two cheaper casts or a single four-drop. The count watches the running total within the turn, not any single spell and not activated abilities, so a two-drop plus a cheap follow-up, or any turn stacking four mana of spells, arms the buff. Because the trigger keys off cumulative mana, you can often line it up during precombat development, then attack with the pumped body already ahead of blocks. The +1/+1 and granted trample landing on any creature you control matters more than the raw stat: on a lone attacker it turns a would-be chump into face damage, and it can steer the buff onto whichever attacker is best positioned to shove a point or two past the wall. Since the body already carries trample, the ability reinforces the printed plan rather than patching a gap. The ceiling is the honest part: expend 4 fires once when you hit four mana of spells, a single pump rather than a free-standing engine.
