Rootwater Shaman
A static engine for one of the more obscure rules quirks in early design: the ability to deploy creature Auras at instant speed without flash on the Auras themselves. The strategic axis this opens is timing, not card advantage. An Aura cast as a sorcery commits before combat and telegraphs the play; with this on the battlefield, a pump or evasion enchantment becomes a combat trick, holding up a Flight or a buff to ambush a blocker, dodge a removal spell aimed at the bare creature, or surprise-trample through after attackers are declared. That window is the whole point, and it is what separates Auras-as-permanents from Auras-as-instants. The cost is fragility: like every Aura strategy, the value is keyed to a creature that has to survive, and a 2/2 enabler is the first thing a removal spell answers. The design also rewards stocking the deck with enchantments around it, since one static permission applies to every qualifying Aura you draw afterward. It belongs to the Merfolk Shaman lineage that ties blue's tribe to enchantment and water flavor, a small piece of the broader experiment in giving creature-Aura decks a reason to exist beyond raw stat-stacking.
