Rootless Yew

Creature — Treefolk3 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

A dying body that hands you a bigger one. The tutor here fires on death, not on entering, which reverses the usual order of operations for a value creature: instead of a beater you trade away and mourn, this is a beater you actively want to see traded, because the exchange upgrades your threat count rather than depleting it. The tutor is deliberately narrow, keyed to raw stats rather than ability text, which keeps it from fetching combo pieces and points it squarely at fat: the fetched creature only needs six power or six toughness, so it happily grabs a defensive wall or an overstatted finisher with equal ease. Sending the card into hand rather than onto the battlefield is what keeps the rate fair. You still have to pay for whatever you found, so the effect is a consistency tool, not a reanimation engine: it turns a topdeck-dependent big-creature deck into one that reliably assembles its second act. The Treefolk framing fits the mechanic: something ancient falls and its seed is already sprouting. What the design really rewards is a curve top-heavy enough that a five-mana 5/4 dying is not a setback but a setup, since the search only pays off if your library is stocked with targets worth the tutor.
