Root Sliver
Most tribal payoffs grant a stat boost, a keyword, or an evasion ability; this one hands the whole Sliver hive an answer to permission, the single weakness a creature-flood deck can least afford to walk into. A counterspell-heavy opponent dismantles a Sliver board one threat at a time, since the deck's power compounds across many small creatures rather than resting on a single bomb. Resolve this and the math inverts: every Sliver spell from there forward lands no matter what, and even the body that delivered the lock cannot be stopped on the way down, since the protection extends to its own casting. That self-applying clause matters because it closes the obvious gap. A Sliver lord that could itself be countered would be a rule that protects every creature except the one whose presence enforces it. Green is the color most starved for interaction with the stack, so handing the tribe a stack-proofing engine through a green four-drop is a deliberate stretch of what green is allowed to do: not a counterspell, but a structural denial of the counterspell as a category. The 2/2 frame keeps it modest as a beater, which is correct; its job is to be a permanent rule sitting on the battlefield, not a clock. Against decks built around blue's tempo plan, it converts a grinding, attritional matchup into one where the Sliver player simply gets to play the game on their own terms.
