Rocky Roads

Most red sources ask nothing of your board; this one runs a check on the way in and rewards you for already having a Mount or Vehicle down, entering untapped the moment your board is set up correctly. That conditional tap is the entire cost of the red mana. The payoff arrives later, once the manabase is full and the land would otherwise sit dead: for it consumes itself to leave behind a 1/1 Pilot token that saddles and crews as if it were a bigger body, so one small creature can turn on machinery well beyond its actual stats. The design answers a chronic problem for decks built around riders and pilots, which is fielding enough warm bodies to trigger the payoffs without clogging the list with vanilla one-drops. The sacrifice being locked to your main phase closes off any combat ambush; you cannot flash in a crewer to spring a surprise attacker, and the two-mana price keeps the token from ever being free. What reads as a plain enters-tapped land is really a two-stage support card: a red source when you need mana, then a mana sink that feeds the exact archetype its tap clause was written to encourage.
