Roar of the Wurm

Seven mana for a 6/6 is a rate nobody pays at sorcery speed, and the card knows it. The real ask is the flashback, which buys a second 6/6 out of the graveyard for four. Read both halves together and the math reframes: eleven mana across two turns or more for twelve power of vanilla beef, with the front half ideally never hard-cast at all. Where this design earned its keep was as a discard payoff. Pitched to a Careful Study, a Faithless Looting, or a Compulsion, the printed cost becomes a tax you skip, and the is the only part you ever agree to pay. It is one of flashback's clearest statements of intent: a card built to begin in the bin, where the seven-mana sticker is theoretical and the back half is the price that matters. The Wurm itself is plain by design, no trample, no haste, just a body big enough that two of them close a game while you keep digging. The lineage runs through every looter-into-fatty deck since, where the win condition has to be castable from the yard. A token-maker fills that role differently from a reanimation target: it never wants Reanimate or Disentomb in the first place, because nothing needs to come back. You pay the flashback once, exile the card, and the Wurm is simply standing on the battlefield, no creature left in the graveyard to lose to graveyard hate or to require a second enabler.
