Riptide Turtle

Creature — Turtle1 generic manaBlue mana

A wall you can drop at instant speed, which is a stranger pairing than it sounds. Flash and Defender rarely coexist because a Defender's whole job is passive: it sits, it blocks, it never swings. Attaching Flash to that job changes only one thing, but a real one: when the decision gets made. Instead of committing a blocker on your own turn and telegraphing the plan, you hold the mana, watch what an opponent sends into the red zone, and materialize a 0/5 body in response. That surprise arithmetic is the point. A five-toughness wall summoned mid-combat can absorb an attacker that thought it had a clear lane, or simply blank a swing an aggressive deck planned around an open board. Nothing dies to the block (zero power kills nothing), but the attack does, and that is enough for the deck this serves. The cost is that it does nothing else: a two-mana creature with no power and no evasion is a purely defensive purchase, a reactive investment rather than a threat. It buys turns for a slower deck to reach the part of the game where its expensive spells matter. This is a familiar niche for blue, the cheap, deep-toughness roadblock that stalls the ground while the real plan assembles. The wrinkle is just the timing window, and it is a genuine one, converting a card that would otherwise be a dead pre-commit into a combat-step ambush.
