Exile used to be the closest thing the game had to a permanent answer: a card sent to the removed-from-game zone (now the exile zone) was, for most of the game's history, gone in a way the graveyard never was. This Elf Shaman exists to puncture that certainty. The body is incidental; what matters is the trigger, which reaches into the exile zone and shuffles any face-up card there back into its owner's library, friend or foe. That clause does a surprising amount of work. It retrieves your own creature swallowed by a Swords to Plowshares, recovers a suspended card stranded under counters, or undoes an opponent's processing and imprinting effects by pulling the exiled card back where it belongs. The "face-up" restriction is the limit that keeps it honest: a card exiled face-down (the hidden mode many effects use precisely so it cannot be interacted with) stays out of reach, so this is a wrench thrown at open-information exile, not a universal undo button. It belongs to a tiny class of designs that treat exile as a reachable zone rather than a one-way door, and the value of that proposition rises and falls entirely with how much the surrounding cards lean on exiling things permanently. When nobody is exiling anything that matters, it is a 2/2. When the stack is full of imprint and processor effects, it is a scalpel pointed at the one zone most players assume is sealed.
