Reveille Squad

The trigger reads defensive, and on a 3/3 that survives most attackers it half-functions as one. But the real design is built around a window most cards never touch: the declare-attackers step on your opponent's turn. When creatures swing at you, the squad untaps your whole board mid-combat, so the dorks and bodies you tapped out on your own turn are suddenly available to block. That is the actual payoff, not some next-turn swing-back (your creatures untap in your own untap step regardless); the value is being able to spend your mana and attackers freely on your turn and still field a full wall of blockers when the counterattack comes. The condition that this creature itself be untapped is the friction that keeps it honest: tap it down or kill it before attackers are declared and the engine goes dark. It sits inside the Rebel chain that defined white in its era, a tribe built on tutoring small bodies into play and grinding incremental advantage, and it asks the deck to weaponize being raided rather than simply weathering it. The complication is that the opponent decides whether to feed it at all. A player who sees the untap can decline to attack, leaving what plays like a plain 3/3 that does nothing until provoked. That is the tension on the card: an ability strong enough to flip a combat, gated behind the cooperation of the player it is aimed at.
