Returned Phalanx
The defender keyword fixes this as a blocker by default, but the activated ability pays for the right to swing in the wrong color: blue mana, not the black that cast it. That gating is the whole design. A 3/3 for two with no drawback would be aggressively costed, so the card hands you a strong defensive rate up front and locks the offense behind a color you may not be playing. The cleanest version lives in a Dimir shell, where the same lands that cast it can also turn it loose, letting one creature serve as an early roadblock and, later, a 3/3 attacker that demands an answer. Outside those colors it stays a pure defensive body, which is exactly the point: the off-color activation is the admission price for a stat line that would otherwise be a freeroll. The Zombie type and the cheap toughness make it durable filler for any deck content to sit behind a wall while it sets up, with the upside that the wall can eventually become the clock.
