Reparations
A punishment enchantment for being targeted, which is a strange and narrow axis to design around because the trigger sits entirely in your opponent's hands. The card cares about one specific shape of interaction: a spell your opponent casts that points at you or your creatures. Removal, burn to the face, an aura they hang on your blocker. Each of those becomes a card, and the dissonance is the point: the harder your opponent tries to interact with you, the more they fuel you. Note the precise boundary of that trigger, though. It reads "targets you or a creature you control," which means it cares about your face and your battlefield, not your stack. A counterspell pointed at one of your spells targets the spell, not you, so it never fires Reparations. The clause is doing real work in limiting what counts. It is built on a similar instinct to later "make their targeting hurt" pieces, but it pays you in cards rather than punishing them in damage or mana, which makes it a softer, more passive valve. The structural weakness is also the structural charm: against a deck that never targets you (creatures-only beatdown, sweepers, edicts) it reads zero, and the opponent keeps full control over whether you ever profit. That asymmetry, where every point of value depends on choices made by the person across the table, is why it has always been more curiosity than staple.
