Reason // Believe

Sorcery // SorceryBlue mana4 generic manaGreen mana

The aftermath split is at its best when the two halves want the same thing, and this one is built around a single resource: card selection that pays itself forward. Reason is library smoothing you cast early to dig toward your best draws, stacking the top of your deck the way you want it. Believe then reaches into that arranged stack from the graveyard, turning the top card into either a free creature on the battlefield or a card in hand. The structural trick is that the first half is a setup for the second: scry the top three, leave a fatty on top, then aftermath Believe to cheat it into play without paying its cost. Plenty of decks scry; plenty want to put creatures onto the battlefield from the top of the library. Folding both onto one card, separated by a graveyard cast, is the design tension this resolves. The catch is sequencing across turns, since the two halves live in different mana brackets and you rarely get to chain them in a single turn. Most aftermath cards split their value into two unrelated effects bolted together; this one tells a continuous story, where what you scry on the front is the thing you're hoping to find on the back.
