Reap What Is Sown
The shape of the spell is a single counter, applied to as many as three different bodies, all at instant speed: that combination is the whole story. It is not a distribution effect that hands out a pool of counters however you like, and it cannot be funneled onto one creature for a big trick; the ceiling is fixed at three permanent points spread across three permanents, one apiece. What that buys is a clean board-wide nudge that the instant-speed window weaponizes. Hold it through an opponent's combat, let them declare blockers on the math they can see, then redraw every trade at once by toughening three attackers or three blockers a step beyond what they planned for. Counter-based pumps that came before it largely sat at sorcery speed, which let the defender count creatures and commit safely; this one taxes that certainty. Reading the target line as "up to three" is what keeps it live early: it plays the same with one creature on the table as with three, where a fixed-total spread would want the wide board first. The trade-off that prices the effect is permanence: these counters do not fall off at end of turn the way a pump spell does, so the floor is high and the value sticks, but you are paying for durability rather than a burst. It belongs in a go-wide green-white shell where small permanent buffs compound into a board that snowballs.
