Reality Is Mine to Control
Most ongoing schemes tick on the untap step, feeding the archenemy incremental pressure every turn they survive. This one does nothing at all until the archenemy decides the exact spell worth doubling, and that inertness is the whole design. The cost is not mana but timing: abandoning the scheme is a one-shot, and once spent it is gone for good, so every turn spent waiting is a bet that a better spell is still coming. The window belongs entirely to the caster, which converts any high-value spell (a table-wide sweeper, a game-ending X-burn, a permanent that arrives as a bonus token) into a two-for-one the moment it resolves. Because the copy lets you pick new targets, the scheme rewards patience for the turn the second target matters most: doubling removal across two threats, or splitting a Fireball between two opponents. What it folds into the format is one of the most abusable effects in the game (a free spell copy with fresh target selection), handed not as raw stats but as a decision about when to spend it. That sequencing burden is the payoff the multiplayer variant was built around: the scheme trusts the archenemy to read the board and hold for the doubling that breaks it open, rather than simply accruing value for showing up.
