Reality Hemorrhage

Instant1 generic manaRed mana

Devoid was an experiment in making cards colorless while still charging colored mana to cast them, and this is the cleanest test of why anyone would want that. Functionally it is a two-mana burn spell with a strictly weaker rate than the cheap red removal that surrounds it: two damage to anything, at a cost most red decks would rather see buy three. What you are paying for instead is the absence of a color. Cast with red mana but colorless on the stack, it reads to the era's Eldrazi-side payoffs as a colorless spell, ducks under protection-from-red and color-hate that a normal burn spell walks straight into, and switches on the "whenever you cast a colorless spell" triggers of the period. The damage is the floor; the colorlessness is the reason to run it over a more efficient option. It is a fair illustration of how devoid granted nothing on the card's face: the same instant could have been printed without the keyword and would resolve identically against most targets. The value lives entirely in the words "this card has no color," which only matter when something else in the deck is hunting for a colorless spell to feed. Absent that narrow ask, it is a deliberately overcosted burn spell wearing a keyword as the price it pays for it.
