Devour has always been a fold-the-board mechanic: convert a wide army into a single fat threat. What this design does is weaponize that conversion twice over, tying the size of the enter-the-battlefield damage directly to the power the creature just accumulated. Sacrifice a pile of small creatures, arrive with three counters per body, and then rain that power total across an opponent's board as damage. The trap is written into the same trigger. Every creature you point at fires back for its own power, so the more you spread the damage, the more return fire the Beast absorbs. A 3/3 base with only a few devoured bodies can immolate itself against a well-defended board; a sufficiently gorged one shrugs off the retaliation and still keeps its counters. That self-inflicted risk is the balancing tension the whole card is built around: it is not a clean sweep, it is a trade you have to survive. The math rewards you for going tall rather than merely wide, since a single large devour makes the outgoing damage lethal and the incoming damage survivable at once. It sits in the lineage of creatures that ask you to spend a battlefield to buy a board wipe on a stick, but it demands you calculate the exchange each way before committing, because the same power that clears their side is the power that determines whether yours walks away.
