Rampant Growth
Trade your turn-two play for a basic land already on the battlefield, and accept the two restrictions that pay for it: the land arrives tapped, and the search is locked to a single basic. Those clauses are what keep the rate honest. The tapped clause means you net a turn of development rather than a turn of speed, which keeps it from snowballing the way an untapped accelerant would; the basic-only clause caps the fixing, since you can fetch any one basic your deck happens to run but cannot grab a nonbasic dual to fix two colors in a single resolution. Later green ramp has spent years renegotiating those exact terms: Farseek widened the search to nonbasics that share a type, Search for Tomorrow bought a discount with suspend, Nature's Lore and Three Visits let the land arrive untapped, and Cultivate added a card to hand at a mana premium. Each is a deliberate edit to one of these two clauses, which is the clearest evidence of how cleanly the original drew the line. It also thins the deck by a card, a small but real consistency gain green has always quietly banked on. Nothing flashy lives here; what lives here is the baseline against which two-mana acceleration gets priced, the spell that defined what a turn of ramp is allowed to cost.
