Rakdos Trumpeter
A defensive body with an offensive button, the whole shape of the Rakdos aggressive-midrange plan compressed into one two-drop. The 1/3 blocks the small creatures that trade cleanly on the early curve, but menace means it demands two blockers to stop on the ground, so it rarely gets held back by a single defender; the firebreathing ability then turns leftover mana into reach the moment a game stalls. The pump costs , which is the design tell: a black creature that wants a red mana source to finish its job, a Gruul-style firebreather stapled onto a color that usually earns its damage through evasion and attrition rather than combat math. That splash requirement is the counterweight to the ceiling-less activation. Without the red half, it is a stubborn early wall; with it online, the card becomes a repeatable clock that punishes an opponent for tapping out. Because the pump has no cap, a hand flooded with lands late is not a dead hand but a growing threat that two blockers can no longer trade with profitably. The card wants a deck that reaches the back half of a game with mana to spare rather than one racing to empty its hand, a slightly unusual ask for a two-mana creature in these colors, and the reason it reads better in an attrition build than an all-in aggro one.
