Rack and Ruin

Instant2 generic manaRed mana

Two artifacts dead for three mana is a rate red rarely offers, and the trade comes with a string attached: the spell needs two legal targets to be cast at all. Against a lone problem artifact it sits inert in hand, useless in the exact spot where a clean answer matters most. That friction is the design discipline. The card is priced for the matchups where artifacts arrive in clusters or stacks, not for the spot-removal job that more flexible spells handle. The lineage runs through red's destroy-multiple-targets school rather than the single-shot Shatter tradition, and the instant timing is the lever that separates it from a sorcery: it can ambush an artifact in response to an activation, break apart two during an opponent's combat, or wait for a second target to commit to the board before the spell becomes live. The result is removal that scales with the opponent's commitment to a single card type rather than with whatever threat is sitting in front of you, an unusual axis that rewards knowing what you are facing over reading the board in the moment.
