Rabid Wombat
The Aura-bonded creature taken to its logical extreme. Most enchant-creature payoffs from the era handed out a fixed bump (Holy Strength's +1/+2, a single vow on a single knight) or asked for investment in one hexproof totem. This one scales linearly with every Aura strapped to it, turning a 0/1 vigilance body into a Voltron win condition the moment two enchantments stick. The design tension is honest: every Aura layered onto a fragile four-mana frame deepens the two-for-one that any removal spell collects, and the Wombat does nothing at all until the suit goes on. That brittleness is the price of the math. The vigilance line is the quiet structural piece, since a fully kitted body wants to swing and still block, and the era's lack of cheap protection auras meant the suit-up usually had to happen across multiple turns under fire. The card states an idea Wizards has revisited under different names since (Kor Spiritdancer counts cards, Sram draws them), but where those reward the act of enchanting, this one simply multiplies the result. The flavor of a tiny marsupial growing monstrous under a pile of magical trinkets is doing more cultural work than the card's competitive footprint ever did: among the game's handful of Wombats, this is the only one anyone remembers.
