Putrid Cyclops
A 3/3 that arrives at full size, then immediately gambles on whether it gets to stay there. The body resolves and enters as a clean 3/3; only afterward does the trigger fire, and the order of operations inside it is the whole design. Scry comes first, so you peek at the top card and choose to keep or bury it, then reveal whatever now sits there to set X. A cheap card on top means the -X/-X barely registers and you keep a near-clean 3/3 until end of turn; a fatty on top can shrink the body to nothing the moment its trigger resolves. The steering is real: bury an expensive card to spare the creature, or leave the small drop you already see and absorb a soft hit. That self-referential loop, where the same dig the card hands you also decides how much of itself survives the turn it landed, behaves like a dial the player turns rather than a flat tax. It does tie the body's reliability to variance in a way a vanilla 3/3 never sees, and any deck leaning on it wants a low curve so the reveal lands gentle. The penalty wears off at end of turn, so a creature that shrinks to a 1/1 is back to a full 3/3 next upkeep: the cost is paid in the window where it matters least, with the dig stapled to the front for free.
