Pull from the Deep
The asymmetry of the recursion is the whole engineering decision: where most graveyard buyback effects let you scoop the same card type twice, this one demands variety, returning at most one instant and one sorcery in a single cast. That split is what rewards the player who runs both burn and card draw, or a counterspell and a ritual, more than the player leaning on a single lever. The self-exile clause matters not because the spell could ever target itself (it sits on the stack when targets are chosen, out of the graveyard's reach) but because it forbids a second copy in the yard from ever ferrying the first one back: no closed loop of returning-and-recasting, no repeatable engine, one use and gone. What comes back is a one-shot regrowth for two spells of complementary types, locked to sorcery speed, which makes it a deliberate refuel turn rather than a tempo swing: you cast it to reload the spells you have already spent digging. It sits in a long line of blue-leaning recursion (Mystic Retrieval, Call to Mind, and the colorless Relearn all do narrower versions of the same job), distinguished by recovering two cards at once at the price of the rigid type split and the removal of itself from the game after use.
