Public Thoroughfare

Land

Fixing lands have always negotiated a tradeoff between speed and reach, and this one prices its five-color access not with life or a shockland's pain but with a tap: it demands you already have a permanent to spare the turn it arrives. That condition does all the work. A land that enters tapped and adds any color is normally a slow-lands ceiling, but the sacrifice-unless clause converts the cost from tempo into a permanent commitment, asking you to leave an artifact or land tapped down at the exact moment you would rather be developing. Miss the requirement and it evaporates on entry, so it punishes an empty board harder than any painland does; the fixing is real, but it is contingent on a table already in motion. The design lineage here is the conditional dual, the family of lands that hand you perfect color access in exchange for a hoop to jump through. Where a checkland reads your other lands and a battleland counts basics, this one taxes your untapped resources directly, turning the cost into an ongoing tension rather than a deckbuilding prerequisite. It rewards boards that are already sprawling and stings the openers that need help most, which is a pointed inversion of what a fixing land is usually for.
