Psychic Spear

SorceryBlack mana

Targeted discard built to punish a single archetype is one of the narrowest constraints a one-mana spell can carry, and this one carries it twice over: it reaches into hand, shows you the contents, and lets you strip a Spirit or an Arcane card, and nothing else. The block it came from was structured around exactly those two type lines (Spirit creatures and the Arcane spells that fed off them), so this reads less like a hate card and more like a tribal mirror tool: a way for one Spirit deck to pull the key card out of another's grip before it resolves. Outside that intersection of types it does nothing, which is the entire point of the rate. The closest functional siblings are the cheap targeted-discard line like Coercion or Distress, but those let you take anything off the top of the revealed hand; here the universe of legal targets is fixed by a creature type and a spell subtype, and that double restriction is what buys black one mana for hand disruption with information attached. The ceiling and floor are both set by who is sitting across the table: against a deck running neither Spirit nor Arcane cards, it is a dead reveal that discards nothing. A design that lives or dies entirely on whether the two type lines it was engineered to answer happen to be in the room.
