Prowling Pangolin

Creature — Pangolin Beast3 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana

Six power for five mana in black has always carried a tax, and this one pays its way through an unusual deal: a discount creature that hands the table a button to delete it, but only at the cost of two of their own bodies. The math is the joke. A five-mana 6/5 is a fine rate; the symmetry inverts who decides whether it sticks. Anyone, on any turn it enters (so the controller can never be sure it survives its own arrival), can pitch two creatures to send it back, and in a creature-light pod they simply will not, leaving a clean beater on the cheap. The card is built as a wager that opponents value their board more than they fear yours: against a token deck or a wide aggressive start, two creatures is trivial, and the Pangolin evaporates before it ever attacks. The design belongs to a family of black bargains where the drawback is a permission rather than a cost paid by the controller, putting the decision in enemy hands and making the body's price contingent on the table state rather than fixed at casting. That contingency is what keeps a six-power five-drop from being a pure freeroll: its survival is negotiated, not guaranteed, and the negotiation favors whoever has the fewest creatures to spare.
