Proud Mentor

Creature — Human Warrior2 generic manaWhite mana

The tapper is one of white's oldest control levers, and this is the smallest possible frame for it: a repeatable White mana and a tap that locks a blocker or neutralizes an attacker, bolted onto a 1/1 that trades down to nearly everything. The body never carries the card; the effect is gated behind the creature's own tap, so it has to survive a full turn cycle before it earns anything. What actually distinguishes it is the partner clause, a mechanic built for two-headed multiplayer rather than singleton synergy. On entry it hands you a free tutor for its designated partner, Impetuous Protege, pulling the other half of a designed pair into hand at no card cost. That makes the two a self-assembling unit: draw or draft one and you are pointed straight at the other, with the partner-with link rewarding you for running them together rather than splashing one alone. The design lever worth noticing is the fiction the pairing enacts. This is the mentor, an aging tapper whose job is crowd control, and the mechanic literally summons the protégé to its side, dramatizing instruction as a search-and-shuffle rather than a keyword. Everything else about the card is modest by intent: it is fixing for a deck built around the pair, plain in every dimension that does not touch that link.
