The page counter is the gimmick that makes this whole engine tick: each upkeep you choose whether to bank another counter, building a delayed payoff that only cashes out when the enchanted creature dies. That structure inverts how Auras normally fail. Most creature enchantments are card disadvantage waiting to happen, because the opponent kills the host and two-for-ones you on the spot. This one turns that vulnerability into the win condition: the death you were dreading becomes the trigger that refills your hand, scaled by how patient you were willing to be. The tension is real, because the counters accrue one per turn on your upkeep while the payoff fires whenever the creature dies, which means the opponent dictates the timing. Sit too long and they simply leave the creature alive, denying you the draw entirely; commit too soon and you cash out for too little. The honest read is that the math rarely justifies the slot, since you are spending a card, a creature, and several turns to draw cards you could have found more cheaply elsewhere. But the design idea is genuinely clever: an Aura that rewards you precisely for the thing Auras normally punish, a sacrifice-adjacent draw engine wearing the costume of the worst card type in the game.
