Primeval Protector

Creature — Avatar10 generic manaGreen mana

The eleven-mana sticker price is a bluff, and the design is about who ends up paying it. Against an empty board this sits inert: a 10/10 with a triggered ability nobody can afford to reach. But the reduction scales with exactly the thing that punishes a stalled green deck, a wide opposing battlefield, and the more creatures your opponents commit, the cheaper it gets, until the board that was running you over becomes the engine that lands the Avatar and buries a permanent +1/+1 counter into each of your other creatures. That inversion is the point. Most green catch-up payoffs are reactive sweepers or fight spells that trade one for one; this converts the opponent's commitment into both a body and a team-wide pump, flipping a board disadvantage into one decisive swing back. The counters matter more than the Avatar's own size, since they persist after it dies and reward a go-wide shell rather than a lone fatty. It is deliberately lopsided: dead when you are ahead and on an empty table, devastating precisely when a flooded opposing board would otherwise finish you. The discount reads only your opponents' creatures, never your own developing board or noncreature permanents, which keeps a green deck honest about building its own side. A comeback button priced by the size of the problem it exists to solve.
