Primal Empathy

Enchantment1 generic manaGreen manaBlue mana

A conditional draw engine that pays you for winning the arms race, with a consolation prize for when you fall behind: two modes stapled together so the losing branch feeds the winning one. Simic decks have always leaned on big creatures, so tying card advantage to holding the greatest power on the board rewards exactly the play pattern the color pair already wants. The check is a tie, not a monopoly: you draw as long as one of your creatures matches the largest power among all creatures, so you do not have to strictly out-size the table, only avoid falling under it. When you meet that bar, this draws a card every upkeep for a three-mana enchantment; when you do not, it hands you a +1/+1 counter instead, and that counter is not filler. Growing your own creature is the mechanism by which you reclaim (or re-tie) the top of the power curve and flip the enchantment back into draw mode, which means even the failing side of the check is building toward the succeeding one. That self-correcting loop distinguishes it from a static "draw if you have the biggest thing" design: the fail case does work rather than sitting idle. The friction is that it triggers only on your upkeep and checks the board once, so an opponent who develops a larger threat on their own turn can tax you a card each cycle until you answer them or catch back up.

At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card if you control a creature with the greatest power among creatures on the battlefield. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control.
