The extra point of toughness is where the whole value lives. A 3/4 sits at a durability threshold a 3/3 never reaches: it trades up into or blocks the bulk of small-to-midsize attackers, and it survives the common three-damage burn that would clip a body one point smaller. That single number turns a forgettable stat line into a functional wall, which is exactly what a slow black deck wants from its mid-game. It does not push much damage going the other way, but it was never built to; the job is to blunt an aggressive curve after the early turns are spent and make an opponent commit a second card to push through the first. As color identity it reads true to black's idea of a footsoldier: not fast, not pretty, durable enough to be annoying. The Aetherborn Warrior typing hands it a creature-type hook for tribal builds that want cheap bodies, though nothing here asks to be built around. Honest common-rarity ballast, the sort of card whose entire purpose is to make the floor of a midrange black deck a little harder to fall through.
