Creature — Human Nomad2 generic manaGreen mana

A repeatable green shrink effect at a time when green barely had any, and the design context is the angle. Green's early color pie offered almost no way to interact with opposing creatures outside fight effects and reach; a tap ability that could neutralize an attacker or shrink a blocker out of relevance was a quiet expansion of what the color could do on a creature. The rate is unmistakably of its era (a 1/1 body that then demands a further activation cost and a tap to do its job), but that recurring, mana-gated combat trick stapled to a body is the same chassis green refined later into deathtouch-pingers and similar repeatable answers. The name and art have also made the card a frequent reference point in conversations about cultural missteps in the game's early sets, and it sits in the cohort of early cards whose flavor has aged into something the brand quietly avoids reprinting. What remains interesting on the design side is the willingness to give green a repeatable, targeted, non-fight answer at all; Wizards spent the following decade walking that permission back into narrower windows, and green's removal suite today still treats the shrink effect as a borrowed tool rather than a native one.
