Portal Mage

The trigger lives inside one of the narrowest windows in the game: the declare attackers step, after attackers are locked in but before damage is dealt. Flash the Wizard down at exactly that moment and you get to reselect what an attacking creature, theirs or yours, is attacking. That is a redirection effect wearing the costume of a combat trick, and the timing is the entire point. Held up at instant speed with mana open, the 2/2 body is almost beside the point; the three mana buys the right to rewrite an opponent's combat math after they have committed to it. A creature swinging at you can be redirected at a different player or at a planeswalker; an attacker aimed at your ally can be peeled off and sent somewhere its damage does you a favor. The reselection cannot turn a creature on its own controller, which keeps the card from collapsing into a one-sided fratricide engine, and combat targeting rules already limit the new target to players, planeswalkers, and battles rather than arbitrary permanents. The constraint is real but light. Where most blue interaction answers spells on the stack, this answers a combat decision after the decision is made: a structurally different thing to be holding up, and one that asks an attacking player to second-guess every alpha strike when an untapped blue mage sits across the table. The body is forgettable; the window is not.
