Porcelain Legionnaire

First strike on a 3/1 is a white aggro staple as old as the game, but this one comes with a string attached that frees it from white entirely: pay two generic and two life, and the Legionnaire arrives on a battlefield with no white source in sight. That is the design hinge. First strike is one of white's signature combat keywords, deeply rooted in its slice of the color pie, yet the alternative life payment lets the body slot into black, red, or any aggressive shell that simply wants three power swinging into combat. The bridge is the one resource every deck shares. The card never stops being white as an object: it carries a white color identity, answers to white hosers, and reads as a white permanent to anything that cares. What it gains is the right to be paid for like a colorless artifact, which is the whole reason off-color aggro reaches for it. The two life is a real cost only in the abstract; on an early turn it buys a creature that wins most of the combats it picks, dropping smaller blockers before they connect and trading up into anything that does not outclass three points. The single toughness is what keeps the rate from running away: it folds to any incidental ping or one-toughness sweeper, though on offense the body rarely needs to live past first-strike damage. The result is a white card that has spent its career attacking for decks playing no white at all.
