Pooling Venom

Enchantment — Aura1 generic manaBlack mana

A land-destruction spell disguised as a tax, and the disguise is the whole point. Where most Stone Rain effects pay full price to blow up a land on the spot, this one buys in cheap and lets the victim choose their own poison: tap the land and bleed two life, or leave it untapped and watch it sit dead in your graveyard's shadow. Against a deck that needs every land every turn (and most do), two life per tap compounds fast, and the activated cost is there for when you want to skip the slow death and just take the land off the table. It punishes the most ordinary act in the game, the act of tapping for mana, which is what makes it nastier than its rate suggests: there is no clean way to play around an Aura that charges you for using the thing it's attached to. The catch is the same one that haunts every targeted land enchantment, from Icy Manipulator-era taxes onward: it commits a card to a single permanent the opponent can sometimes ignore, and if they have basics to spare or fixing to route around the strangled land, the venom never pools. It rewards hitting the right land (a sole source of a color, a key utility land) rather than spraying it anywhere, and that targeting decision is where the card lives or dies.
