Plagon, Lord of the Beach

Legendary Creature — Starfish Wizard2 generic manaBlue mana

Toughness-matters has always been blue's most awkward theme to build around, because the payoffs usually ask you to run creatures that are bad at the one thing creatures are for: dealing damage. This 0/3 legend answers both halves of that problem in a single card. The enters trigger rewards the very stat line that normally does nothing on the attack, drawing off every defensive body you've committed, so the walls and durdly 0/4s finally earn their keep beyond blocking. Then the hybrid-pip activation closes the loop: any creature you control swings for its toughness instead of its power, turning that stockpile of high-toughness dorks into a legitimate clock. It is a rare design that pays you twice for the same deckbuilding constraint, first as card advantage on entry and then as combat math whenever you have the mana to spare. The body itself is not idle even as it arrives: at worst it replaces itself off its own toughness, and the trick can point at Plagon as easily as anything else, letting the 0/3 threaten three damage once it can attack. What makes it worth building around is that both effects reinforce a single axis, so every card you add to satisfy the draw trigger doubles as ammunition for the alpha strike.

When Plagon enters, draw a card for each creature you control with toughness greater than its power. White or Blue mana: Target creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power this turn.
