Pinecrest Ridge

Land

The dual-mana mode comes with a hangover: tap it for red or green and it sits sideways through your next untap step, a self-inflicted tempo tax that turns a one-time fixing burst into a real cost. The escape hatch is the colorless mode, which lets the land behave like an ordinary untapped source on the turns you don't need the off-color, so the penalty only applies when you reach for it. That is the whole bargain of this design lineage: a land that can produce two specific colors at the price of being unavailable next turn, the manabase paying interest instead of an entry fee. The structure trades the enters-tapped delay of early dual lands for a deferred delay, which is a meaningfully different shape. A tapland slows you down on the way in; this slows you down only after you've cashed it, and only if you cash it for color. The math favors decks that want colorless mana more often than they think they do, or that can sequence the fixing for a single decisive turn and absorb the dead step afterward. It is fixing built around the assumption that you won't need both colors every turn, and that the few turns you do are worth more than the untap you're spending to get there.
