Pewter Golem

Artifact Creature — Golem5 generic mana

Black gets a colorless body it can keep around: four power for five mana, slung onto a frame so brittle that any two-damage removal spell or a pair of blockers erases it. The regeneration clause is what tilts an ostensibly any-deck artifact toward black specifically. The activation only matters if you have black mana on hand, so the card reads as colorless on paper and plays as a black creature in practice. Early colorless commons mostly offered a flat body and nothing else; this one buys back its own fragility, but only in the color willing to pay for survival. The two toughness is the whole bargain. Four power is genuine pressure for the cost, yet the body dies to almost everything, so the regeneration is the difference between a one-and-done swing and a recurring attacker. Hold the mana and activate to set up a regeneration shield, and the golem survives the lethal blow; hold it through an opponent's damage-based removal and it shrugs off anything short of exile or bounce. It is a workmanlike beater, a curve-filler rather than a deck's centerpiece, and the single regeneration line is the one decision the card ever asks of its pilot.
