Pernicious Deed

Enchantment1 generic manaBlack manaGreen mana

The genius is the dial. Every board wipe before it set its own threshold: Wrath of God killed creatures, Nevinyrral's Disk swept everything indiscriminately, Powder Keg scaled but capped low. This hands the threshold to the controller and lets it be chosen on the turn it resolves, when the board state is fully known. Pay X for two and you clear the early aggro deck's commitments while your own four-drops survive; pay X for one and you sacrifice it to wipe out the mana dorks and one-drops before they snowball. The scaling cost is what keeps it fair: a true sweeper that hits artifacts, creatures, and enchantments is supposed to be expensive, and this one is, but you pay the expense in proportion to how much you want to destroy, when you want to destroy it. The sacrifice clause matters too, because the enchantment sits on the battlefield as a credible threat for as long as you leave it there, taxing the opponent's decision to overcommit while you hold up the mana. It reads as deceptively cheap to cast and brutally precise to fire, which is the whole reason black-green attrition decks have leaned on it since it first appeared: it lets the reactive player decide not just whether to wrath, but exactly how deep, after the opponent has already shown their hand.
