Perilous Vault

Artifact4 generic mana

The colorless answer to the indestructible problem. Most board wipes leave loopholes: regeneration shields, indestructibility counters, the protected creature that simply ignores a "destroy" instruction. Exile closes all of them. Where other sweepers ask "can I destroy it," this one asks "is it a nonland permanent," and the answer for a threat built from indestructibility is the same as the answer for anything else: gone. The cost is the constraint that pays for that thoroughness. Nine mana total, split across two stages: four to deploy the artifact, then five more plus a tap to fire it, and exiling the artifact itself is folded into that activation cost. There is no version of this that recurs; you pay everything up front and the engine leaves with the board. That makes it a one-shot reset button you commit to, not a lock you ride. The split also gives opponents a window: an artifact sitting on the table with a known activated ability is a telegraph, and there is time to act around it before the five mana comes online. For a deck with no access to white or black mass removal, it remains one of the few ways to scour everything off the table at once, and the only one that does not care what the threats are made of. Planeswalkers, enchantments, hexproof-irrelevant indestructible bombs: they all leave by the same door.
