Convoke usually bankrolls a wide tempo deck: goblins, saprolings, whatever token pile you were already building. This design points the same discount at the opposite end of the curve. By restricting the reward to the first historic spell each turn (your legends, your artifacts, any Saga you deploy), a white four-drop learns to accelerate the fat, durable spells convoke normally has nothing to do with rather than the small plays it usually pays for. The once-per-turn clamp is what keeps that acceleration from becoming a hand-dump: you tap the board to land one curve-topping historic bomb early, then you have to choose which one matters this turn rather than emptying the grip behind a single alpha strike. The Doctor's companion tag defines why the card exists at all. As a companion it forms a two-headed command with a Doctor, and the natural partner is one whose plan wants those historic threats online a turn ahead of schedule; a 2/3 that shaves a spell is unremarkable alone, but paired with the right Time Lord it becomes the crew that taps the team into a bomb before the table is braced for it. This is enabler design in its purest form: a support piece that hands its power to whichever commander sits across from it, which is exactly the job the companion mechanic was built to do.
