Doubling the upkeep step is a strange, almost academic effect until you sit it next to a trigger that wants to fire twice. The card grants no value on its own; it bends the architecture of the turn, inserting a second upkeep before the draw step and asking you to have something waiting in that extra window. Every "at the beginning of your upkeep" trigger resolves again: spore counters accumulating on a Saproling-maker, cumulative upkeep payments, time counters ticking off a suspended spell, the charge stacking on an upkeep-triggered engine. Each new upkeep means another tick, another payment, another payoff, compressing a turn's worth of clockwork into a single round. The targeting clause is what gives it both reach and menace: it enchants a player, not a permanent, so you can hang it on yourself to accelerate your own machinery, or fasten it to an opponent to make their upkeep drawbacks (a damage-on-upkeep clock, a sacrifice tax, a forced payment they can no longer afford) bite a turn ahead of schedule. That dual nature makes it a builder's instrument rather than a finished payoff, the kind of card that sits inert in ninety-nine decks and quietly carries the hundredth. It sits among the rare designs that manipulate the count of phases and steps rather than what happens inside them, and among them it is the most literal: take your upkeep, then take it again.
