The printed sticker reads ten mana, a number no one is meant to actually pay. Affinity does the arithmetic: every artifact you control knocks a colorless off the cost, so a board flooded with tokens, equipment, and mana rocks lands an 8/8 with reach and trample for a fraction of the tag. That is the trick of a high-base affinity creature: the nominal ten frightens the price-conscious, but the artifacts already sitting in front of you have paid most of it down. The reach is the tell that it was built to close games rather than durdle, a single body that walls fliers and stomps past chump blockers at once. The design tension sits entirely on the caster's side of the table: an affinity finisher rewards the artifact-heavy board you were assembling anyway and contributes nothing to assembling it, so it arrives as a payoff, never an engine. It sits alongside the cost-reduced fatties whose mana value stays a fixed ten while the price you pay is a fiction, big enough to matter, cheap enough in context to hit the table several turns before the number suggests. The caveat is that the discount lives and dies with your own permanents: sweep the board or lose the artifacts and the price snaps back to a flat ten with no help coming.
