Panther Habit
Damage prevention that converts harm into growth has deep roots in white and green, but this Equipment does something meaner than the old pump-and-prevent tricks: it turns every point of intended damage into permanent +1/+1 counters. The effect fires on any damage the wearer would take, not just combat. Burn spells, fight effects, pinging abilities, and blockers all feed the counter engine instead of killing the creature. That rewrites the incentives of the combat step. Blocking the equipped creature only enlarges it; letting it through invites a hit that keeps escalating; and burning it down is worse than doing nothing. A single unanswered attacker becomes a compounding threat, growing larger every turn it survives while opponents watch their usual attrition math run in reverse. The four-mana cast and two-to-equip cost is the friction that stops it from spiraling immediately: six mana total before it accomplishes anything, and a well-timed bounce or exile spell erases the whole investment along with the creature. Left unanswered, though, it stops functioning as defense at all. The creature that would normally trade evenly instead walks away bigger, converting a defensive interaction into a one-sided growth curve, which is the sort of asymmetry that makes prevention effects read more like win conditions than insurance.
