Six power for four mana with no evasion and no protection is a body green was already comfortable printing by the late nineties; the bounce clause is the entire point, and it is unusually harsh about it. The trigger fires whenever a player plays a land, yours or anyone else's, the act of playing a land rather than any land arriving on the battlefield. Lands placed by spells or abilities slip past it untouched, but that exception almost never saves you, because playing a land for the turn is the single most reflexive thing a player does. The only way to keep this on the field is to thread a turn where nobody makes a land drop at all: hold your own and pray the other player does the same. In practice the dinosaur lives for one attack step before someone's land sends it home. The design represents the era's bluntest answer to oversized green beaters: rather than tax the mana or shrink the body, give it a real stat line and then make keeping it on the field a puzzle the format is structurally incapable of solving. Compare the gentler downside clocks that came later, where a creature taxes you per turn or sacrifices itself on a timer; this one hands control of its lifespan to the part of the game players perform without thinking. The result reads like a finisher and behaves like a threat you keep recasting: a tempo liability until the return clause is the trigger you want, at which point every land drop becomes a re-buy.
