At 2/4 it blocks the early ground game and holds position for combat math; turn on the +2/+0 and it becomes a 4/4 that presses in and still guards the fort. The threshold sits at two artifacts rather than one, which is the tell about who it was built for: an archetype already treating cheap artifacts as its texture, where crossing the line happens incidentally rather than as a hoop to clear. Common-rarity metalcraft-adjacent designs like this have a long lineage in white and blue, where the payoff is a stat bump keyed to a board state the deck was going to reach anyway; the wrinkle here is that vigilance keeps the reward relevant on both axes of combat instead of just the offensive one. Strip the artifact shell away and the clause never comes online, leaving a plain 2/4: unremarkable filler in the wrong deck, a genuinely awkward attacker-blocker in the right one.
