Oblivion's Hunger

Instant1 generic manaBlack mana

A protection spell that pays you for building the deck it wants. Granting indestructible for a turn is a familiar combat and removal blank, the kind of instant that shrugs off a wrath or steals a block, but the second clause changes what it rewards: point the buff at a creature already sporting a +1/+1 counter and the spell replaces itself with a fresh card. That rider is the tell about who this was built for. In a shell where counters are already accumulating (proliferate, +1/+1 tribal, modular fodder), the drawback that usually shadows a purely reactive instant (a slot you might not need) disappears, because the counter you were already accruing turns the effect from pure defense into a cantripping combat trick. Held at instant speed, it answers a destroy effect or a damage-based sweep on the stack while cycling itself if the target qualifies, so the counters synergy isn't a build-around gimmick but the thing that keeps the card from ever going dead in hand. The design lesson underneath is old: attach card advantage to a condition your archetype meets for free, and a narrow reactive spell reads as a value play instead of a hedge.

Target creature you control gains indestructible until end of turn. Draw a card if that creature has a +1/+1 counter on it. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy the creature.)
