Armageddon destroys lands and leaves everything else standing; this takes the same scorched-earth instinct and refuses to stop, sweeping artifacts, creatures, and lands off the table in a single uncounterable sorcery. The no-regeneration clamp is what makes it genuinely vicious: nothing destroyed can be regenerated, so the usual hedges that let a green or black deck survive a board wipe simply do not apply, and the spell can't be countered, so the control deck that wants to protect its own developed position can't stop it on the stack. The catch is the price. At eight mana, this is not a panic button a fair deck casts to stabilize; the symmetry is absolute, and you blow up your own lands along with your opponent's. So Obliterate is a card you cast having already arranged to win through the wreckage: ride a hasty threat that connects before anyone rebuilds, or lean on a way to keep mana flowing once the lands are gone. It belongs to the same lineage of total-annihilation red sorceries as Jokulhaups, trading that card's "may regenerate" wording for the harder no-regeneration clamp and the can't-be-countered insurance. The result is a finisher disguised as a reset: a button you press once the only thing left standing on a barren battlefield is whatever you brought to close the game.
