A 2/4 for four that promises to become a 3/5, and the promise is the whole catch. Clash dresses a coin flip up as a deckbuilding lever: each player peels the top card, the higher mana value takes the win, and the counter lands more often when your curve runs heavy and theirs runs cheap. The body is built for that gamble. At 2/4 it already blocks most of what an early aggressor sends at it, so the +1/+1 counter is upside rather than load-bearing, and losing the clash leaves a serviceable wall rather than a whiffed four-drop. That separation is the design discipline of the clash cycle of commons: the random outcome only ever improves an already-functional card, so the variance never costs tempo you needed. The top-or-bottom choice afterward is genuine value for both sides, which is the honest read on it. The opponent can sink a dead card to the bottom, and that filtering is exactly what an aggressive deck wants to dodge a midgame flood, so the trigger hands a tool to the player across the table as readily as it sculpts your own draw. The single enters-the-battlefield gamble rewards a top-end you were going to play anyway and taxes an opponent who stacked their deck with one-drops. None of that makes the Treefolk Warrior a build-around; it makes it a sturdy body whose enter trigger pays off a curve you were already running.
