Noxious Toad
A death trigger that taxes an opponent's hand, built for the Portal lineup's deliberately simple template: this is a body whose entire value lives in the moment it dies. The design idea is to fold a small attacker and a piece of incremental disruption into one card, so that trading it in combat or sacrificing it still extracts a card from across the table. That makes the 1/1 body a feature rather than a weakness: a fragile creature that opponents are happy to block or burn becomes a discard spell on a timer, since killing it is exactly what sets the trigger off. The discard hits each opponent rather than a single target, which is the part that scales differently depending on how many players sit across from it. Portal taught the game with a deliberately narrow rules vocabulary, no instants, no stack tricks, just creatures and sorceries, and this teaches the lesson that a creature can be worth more dead than alive. The whole package reads as an early, plain-language version of an aristocrats-style payoff: a creature you actively want to lose, where the death is the spell and the body is just the delivery mechanism.
