That two-color rider is doing more design work than the rate suggests. Green and white are the colors of go-wide boards, resilient midrange bodies, and the planeswalkers that anchor them, so a two-mana spell that flatly kills any creature or planeswalker wearing either color trades universal reach for extreme efficiency against a specific half of the color wheel. The lineage runs through the old hosers that always connected when they connected, provided you were pointing them at the right decks. Because it destroys rather than deals damage, high-toughness green threats fall to it exactly as easily as a fragile one-drop; the color condition is the only wall it cannot climb, and against green or white there is no wall at all. It is still a black spell that needs a legal target, so a hexproof body or a creature with protection from black shrugs it off like any other pointed removal. The lifegain is a small, pointed rider, buying back the tempo lost to the aggressive green and white starts this kind of card exists to punish. A well-calibrated hoser feels like this: narrow enough to be a fair price, absolute enough that the narrowness rarely stings.
